Vintage Cider Trail
Somerset guided walking weekend

The Guardian recommended Foot Trails Vintage Cider Trail as one of the top 5 food walks in 2007.

Indulgent simple pleasures and luxury combine in this special guided walking weekend. We take you into some of the most unspoilt countryside in Somerset. Along the way you'll taste some of the finest local produce, visit one of England's remaining 3 vintage apple orchards and visit places that remain as they did centuries ago.

Our holidays are timed to coincide with May apple blossom and autumn fruit, and a visit to a traditional cider farm completes this foodie walking experience.

The Cider Trail, Somerset
The Itinerary

Friday

During your holiday you will be enjoying the award-winning luxury of a country inn near Crewkerne, Somerset. Luxurious bedrooms feature roll-top baths, Somerset fruit juice and hand-ground coffee and tea. A delightful choice of expertly cooked local produce is available from this gastro pub of the year 2008.

Foot Trails co-founder Alison Howell will welcome you in the evening, and you'll enjoy dinner together with your fellow guests.

Saturday

Enjoy a breakfast taste sensation, with a choice of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, crispy bacon, cereals and patisserie. Then enjoy The Cider Trail with sweeping views over the hill sides. Discover one of England's only remaining vintage apple orchards, an impressive sight in May with its pink blossom and in autumn when the fruit is ripening on the trees. You will visit a traditional cider farm where Somerset's golden drink has been crafted with traditional methods for hundreds of years. There'll be time to taste the cider and apple brandies!

Sunday

Wake to enjoy a leisurely Sunday breakfast. You'll be well set up for today's enjoyable paced walk in the local countryside. A Medieval Fair will take you through picturesque medieval villages, including Lopen, well renowned for its medieval fair where drunkards were punished with the stocks! The countryside is truly beautiful and you'll return after lunch on route at a country pub, feeling refreshed and relaxed.
