Dorset's Jurassic Coast
The Itinerary
Friday
Arrive to relax in your beautiful 700 year old country house hotel. A former priest's house, the surroundings are delightful with inglenook fireplaces, candles, stone mullion windows and rich sumptous fabrics. You'll receive attentive yet relaxed service, home-made shortbreads in your bedroom, delicious canapes before dinner.
Foot Trails co-founder Alison Howell will welcome you with a complimentary glass of wine by the fire in the evening, and you'll enjoy dinner together with your fellow guests, for a wonderful start to your holiday.
Saturday
Wake refreshed to breakfast, with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon perhaps, or porridge with cream or simply toast and cereal. An enjoyable paced 9.5 mile trail will take you past Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's original River Cottage, and over Eype down for spectacular views and perhaps sightings of the Perregruine falcons.
On the coast you can dip your toes in the sea and enjoy the sound of the lull of the waves on the pebble shore. The delightful views along Chesil beach are wonderful. You'll lunch on route at a pretty Dorset pub and enjoy walking with spectacular coastal views before returning to relax at your country house hotel. Perfect.
Sunday
Enjoy a leisurely Sunday breakfast followed by a 5 mile trail to blow out the cobwebs. Today you'll explore some of the beautiful in-land countryside, including picturesque Dorset villages before arriving at a working 17th century water mill. There'll be time to explore the workings inside and see the mill pond with its ducks and waterbirds. Then we'll return, enjoying Sunday lunch before you depart.
