Hidden Cotswolds Inn to Inn - guided
The Itinerary NEW
Foot Trails co-founder Alison Howell will welcome you to your first Cotswolds country inn. Named Cotswolds life pub of the year this charming country inn on the banks of the river Churn offers great atmosphere and tasty local food. Enjoy a drink in the bar before dinner with Alison and your fellow guests.
Day 2
Wake to a leisurely breakfast, before your first trail, The Churn valley. Soak up timeless scenes over rolling Cotswolds countryside that is marked by dry-stone walls. Your day will be interspersed with visits to some beautiful unspoilt villages. The Celtic people settled in this valley and you'll hear fascinating stories of their past way of life. With a delicious pub lunch on route you'll return late afternoon to relax before dinner.
Day 3
Today's trail is called The Roman Mosaic. Walk in the footsetps of the Romans, discovering on route many baths, pillars and shrines. You'll visit a Roman villa with its magnificent mosaic floors from the early centuries and warm, hot and cold bath houses where bathing rituals took place. Intricate underfloor heating was designed to keep the English winter at bay. During the afternoon your trail explores wool country. You'll see some beautiful wool churches and arrive in the afternoon at your second country inn, a 17th century Cotswolds stone building with flagstone floors, fireplaces, and a rustic feel.
Day 4
Wake to a leisurely breakfast, then a trail called The Valley of the Boar. This is a heavenly walk, the scenery is quite spectacular and there is rich history to this area. Your trail will be puncutated with a Neolithic settlement site, and you'll cross the Fosse way, a former Roman road across England. There are tranquil valleys, rolling wolds, a traditional Cotswolds pub for lunch!
Return to relax before dinner.
Day 5
Today's trail is called "Any Tom, Dick or Harry" in tribute to the legendry men who hid here. The original outlaws and thieves, they attempted a robbery on the Gloucester post train and met rather grisely ends! You'll also discover Bourton on the Water with its delightful cottages on the river bank, and the village where troops gathered in 1643 on the eve of the battle of Stow. A really varied day that ends with your arrival at your third country inn, a grade 11 listed former Georgian farmhouse.
Day 6
A leisurely breakfast proceeds a day that is called A Jacobean Survivor. You'll discover plenty of Georgian grandeur with Jane Austen inspired houses and sweeping countryside. A scenic walk brings us to Chastleton house, one of England's most complete Jacobean houses. It occupies an idyllic setting next to a 12th century parish church.
