Your next days walk gives you a peaceful day, through an oasis of calm countryside, not far from Bath. As you make your way up river there are wonderful contrasts of the area´s industrial past against the beautiful countryside. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Somerset coal canal took its precious cargo to market. There is plenty of wildlife, look out for herons gliding gracefully and for the shrill cry of buzzards overhead. Lunch at a country pub
Wednesday and it´s "To the City" – meet thousands of years of human history in the world heritage city of Bath. Prior Park is a beautiful and intimate 18th century landscape garden, with sweeping views across Bath. You will walk through Prior Park (entrance included) and into the Georgian city itself via the meadows by Bathwick hill. Lunch at a wonderful contemporary cafe.
After a leisurely breakfast at your 17th century Cotswolds stone country inn, you will set out to explore the secret landscape of the Churn Valley. This walk gives you a true flavour of the authentic side of the Cotswolds. Cross the river beside a delightful 18th century mill, listening to the water as it tumbles over the weir. Up onto the sweeping hill, the views of the Cotswolds are great, looking across the valley, woodland, fields, cottages and grand manors. Lunch at a country pub on route.
Your next day – A Roman Trail, we´re straight into the Cotswolds countryside today, passing through a charming Cotswolds hamlet with its rustic old cottages. Delightful rows of Cotswolds cottages adorn our next village as well as a stunning wool church and a pub by the stream for lunch.
Your last morning and we're on the trails of an English pantomime legend, but was this a real figure? Your walk takes you alongside babbling brooks, through ancient valleys and across nature reserves where wildlife abounds. You will see Neolithic long barrows and the charming and rustic cottages of hamlets and villages. Back for a late lunch before we bade you farewell.
