Foot Trails 3 top tips for comfortable summer walking

Summer walking needs just bit of preparation to keep you cool and healthy. Foot Trails summer walking trips are put together with the summer season in mind, so you will find opportunities to rest in shady spots on route.

In addition to this, try the following top tips for staying cool.

Drink regularly
In warmer weather aim to drink at least a cup of water, every half an hour. This might sound excessive if you aren't used to it, but this is how much water you will be losing. Keep a drinks bottle or two in your day sac, it's better to carry more than you need than run out in the middle of no-where.

Stay covered up
Resist the urge to expose lots of skin. Keeping wrapped up in light layers will actually keep you much cooler than walking in shorts and a vest top. Keep the sun off your head with a cool sun hat, ideally one that both covers your neck and throws shade over your face. Remember the sun cream!

Beat the bugs....
Insects are attracted by salt on your skin, so wear long trousers in summertime to prevent unwanted bites! There are lots of insect repellents on the market at reasonable prices and a good one will keep the bugs away. It's a good idea to carry a cream with you just in-case you are bitten or stung.
