You don't have to be super fit to do a walking holiday, so long as you are reasonably fit and do some regular gentle exercise then you can do a walking holiday. Foot Trails self guided holidays mean you set the pace that suits you, giving you lots of options to spend more time over lunch, enjoy a castle or a museum or just sit by the river, it's all up to you. There are a wide choice of walks, from 3 miles to 12 miles, some on the flat and some with a few hills. All the trails on the web site tell you how long they are, but if you would like advise on the terrain, just give us a call and we will work out the best walks for you together. How long are the walks each day?Centre based holidays mean you decide on your walks, choosing your days out to suit the distances you would like to walk. This is the great beauty of centre based walking. There is a choice of over 36 walks from 3 to 12 miles with Foot Trails centre based walks . You can also mix and match, giving you the exhilaration of a long walk one day but maybe something gentler and shorter to follow. Of course you can always do 10 miles or more everyday! I love walking, but I can’t read a map or use a compass,can I still come?Yes. On a self-guided foot trails you do not need to read a map or use a compass to follow the trails. David has already done the work of putting together and planning the route for you and the waterproof route notes that he has written will be your guide during your walk. All you need is an enjoyment of walking, and average level of fitness. All of the trails are very easy to follow. Each route direction leads you from landmark to landmark and guides you clearly from start to finish For peace of mind, we will provide you with the phone number of both the Foot Trails office and Alison or David who will be contactable at all times. I am an experienced walker, will the walks be suitable for me?If you enjoy map reading yourself, we will provide you with a map with your route clearly marked. You can use this to plot and follow your trail. You will have the route directions as an extra guide should you need them. Our walks vary in length, and grade, so you would perhaps enjoy the walks which are up to 12 miles in length. If you prefer a greater challenge, please let us know! David will be happy to put together a route to suit you and your ability. Why are your walks the best?Foot Trails is dedicated to having only the best walks. All Foot Trails walks are designed by one top local walking expert, David Howell. David researches and puts together all his own walks to make sure you have variety, from views to woodlands to small villages, there is plenty of interest along the way and that there is always some where lovely to stop for lunch. David walks hundreds of miles every year and rejects lots of footpaths as not suitable for you. David goes out of his way to give you the best. How do your centre based holidays work?Foot Trails centre based holidays give you the time to relax in one of our carefully chosen Inns, whilst enjoying days out at your leisure with no pressure on time, pick up points or making it to your next nights stop. It gives you a totally independent walking holiday where you set your time and agenda but with the back up of Foot Trails support. Support that gives you - carefully chosen and inspected accommodation, - guaranteed beautiful walks, - walking notes, maps and lots of other wonderful information, - on call support should you need us.

Foot Trails Inn to Inn trails also give you the same assured quality of accommodation and walks that we always insist on. Each Inn has been carefully chosen to ensure that it not only offers above standard accommodation but also fantastic food, wines and ales. The walks do not just take you from Inn to Inn, they are designed to be scenic, beautiful and full of interest and variety and of course an Inn for lunch! Our Inn to Inn packages are flexible, so you don't have to walk everyday, you can always plan to stay on and have extra nights at any of the Inns. Each time you move we will collect you luggage and move it on to your next Inn so it will be ready and waiting for you when you arrive.
Yes, for all of our self guided walking holidays you will get both a full set of Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps and also a walking guide with detailed notes on your walk. All our walking notes are prepared by David and are very easy to use. You can either use them without the map or together. Our walking notes are continually kept up to date as we check routes on a regular basis to make sure they are open and the notes are still correct. What if I get lost or I can't finish my walk?You won't get lost! But if you do or if you feel unable to finish your walk, you will have a contact number that is available during your holiday. We can give you advise on finding your way or, if you need to, arrange a local taxi to pick you up. What will the accommodation be like?Foot Trails has carefully chosen only the best local Inns in the area. We have chosen Inns that offer high quality but informally, with scenic locations in small villages and peaceful hamlets. From 14th century beamed and thatched Inns to a ham-stone inn tucked right under the downs every Inn has true character and charm. All our Inns are small and friendly,so you won't find your self in a large hotel. The bedrooms all have en-suite or private facilities and have a real creature comfort feel. To ensure that the Inns are right for you we personally stay at and check every Inn we use. What are the meals like?At Foot Trails we believe the food you have on your holiday should be nothing less than excellent. Your meals will be freshly prepared and cooked by some of the regions top award winning chefs. Where you have special dietary requirements then these can always be accommodated. We don't include a fixed 3 course meal with your break so you have the freedom and choice to choose any meal that suits your taste and appetite! Will I have to carry lunch with me everyday? No, you don't have to carry lunch, all our self-guided trails are designed with lunch in mind and there is always a recommended Inn or Cafe along the way. Of course if you prefer to carry your lunch or have a picnic then we can always give you advice and help in organising one. Do you organise luggage transfers?For our Inn to Inn trails your luggage will be transferred to the next Inn every time you move on. Your luggage will always be ready and waiting for you at your next stop. What is included in the trail price?
Yes, if you are group of 4 or more friends or family then as you will be sharing the maps and walking materials we will offer you a discount. Get in touch with us with for more information. We are a large walking group and we fancy a private holiday, can you arrange something for us?Foot Trails has experience organising holidays for groups from 4 guests to 25 guests. If you have a group of friends, colleagues or walking members, and would like to have the hassle of group organisation taken care of for you, let us know! We will organise a holiday at no extra charge, to take care of your requirements, leaving the organiser to enjoy the holiday as much as everyone else! How do I get to and from the start of the trail?Before your break with us you will be given a special information pack that will include full persoanlised directions to where you will be staying. If you are arriving by train or public transport then we can advise on the nearest local stations and help with booking a taxi to get you to your Inn. All of our Inns are easily accessible by public transport and are within 2 hours of London and The Midlands. For more visit getting here. I am an international guest, is it possible to join one of your tours?We welcome many international travelers on our tours, and many return with us every time they are in the UK. If you are arriving by air then we can arrange an airport transfer for you and arrange extra nights accommodation or individual tours to fill a schedule that fits you. As we are in the south West we are easily accessible from London and close to Stonehenge and Bath so you can easily combine these in your trip. |
