The itinerary - 4 or 6 nights

On day one of your inn to inn walking holiday you'll arrive to settle into your 17th century coaching inn near Shaftesbury, Dorset.

Following a leisurely breakfast next morning you can set off on your first trail. Fables of Old England explores picturesque Wiltshire, the village of Christopher Wren's birthplace, ancient cottages and charming churches.

On day 3 Beckfords Folly will lead you through scenery reminiscent of old England, and marvelous stories and tales, to your second, 14th century thatched inn. With an array of awards the beams and character are wonderful and the food superb.

Day 4, after a leisurely Wiltshire breakfast, brings a day of two castles on our Castle Trail. One 14th century is medieval and surrounded by stunning countryside and a string of lakes created by landscape genius Capability Brown. The second castles you'll encounter today is 18th century and featured in the film Billy Elliott. You'll stop at a fantastic country pub on route for lunch.

Day 5 explores The Cranborne Chase. Discover a formerly royal hunting ground where you can enjoy a profusion of wild flowers and rare Orchids. The views are spectacular and this is Thomas Hardy country, featuring in many of the famous author's novels. The medieval villages on route are very pretty and at the end of your trail you'll reach your third country inn, set in one of the Chase's villages.

Day 6 reveals Wessex Heights. Today you'll find a wealth of history with Roman and iron-age hill forts and superb views of the River Stour. This is a walk of great variety and spectacular countryside.
