Somerset's Cider Country (self guided walking holiday)
Trail overview
Where? – South West England in the county of Somerset When? – 2010 dates available now
Scrumptious and scrupmy (sorry, terrible pun!) walking through ancient apple trees with twisty trunks. Your trails explore one of the three remaining vintage orchards in England, where our greatest apple varieties are produced. Learn how the cider is made when you visit, from growing to pressing, and taste some from the wooden barells. It's delicious, and that aroma! Ancient villages along these trails are sleepy and picturesque. Community life is strong and this gives this walking holiday a wonderful atmosphere. You can pop into one of our carefully selected local country pubs on route for a leisurely pint and some lunch. Or marvel at the countryside from one of the best viewpoint in Somerset, where you can gaze across the levels. After a day walking and exploring you'll have a healthy appetite. Indulge in some of the delicious local fare including pork, lamb, fennel, apple brandy and cheese, making this an ideal holiday for foodie lovers.
