Included in your holiday
Your 4 night guided walking holiday begins Sunday evening at 7.30pm with a complimentary glass of wine. (Arrive earlier if you wish and enjoy a stroll to the beach).
Welcomed by Foot Trails founder Alison Howell, a relaxing evening start to your holiday in the lounge before dinner, will be a chance to meet your fellow guests and hear about your walks.
The following day after a superb Dorset breakfast, David your guide will meet you for an enjoyable paced 9 mile walk.
You will enjoy spectacular views from the off today, as you explore an ancient hamlet with an abandoned church. Superb panoramas greet you, with swirls of greens and blues where the emerald countryside meets the sea. We'll lunch at a 19th century cottage tea rooms, that can only be reached by foot.
Our next day is the "Dorset Smuggle" a 9 mile walk in deepest rural Dorset, villages filed with quintessential Dorset cottages, and a soothing slow pace of country life. With a patchwork of farmsteads, fields and hamlets with gorgeous old stone farmhouses. Your walk will lead you to an iconic hill which will give you breath-taking 360 degree views. Wow! Lunch is at a community owned country pub with good local food.
The following day we explore to Eggardon, an inland walk with spectacular sea views from atop the Iron age fort. A hill fort of history and mystery, it's surviving and visible earthworks a testament to our ancient peoples. Views are extensive, awe inspiring and uplifting. You will see some 20 miles of coast. Nearby on the hill, local smugglers hung lanterns to signal to ships when it was safe to land. Smuggling was quite an industry! Lunch at a traditional Dorset country pub, in an idyllic village setting.
Our last day of full walking takes into anceint Dorset, starting at the valley of the stones, a fascinating place, named because of its stone. Explore a landscape once dotted with ceremonial stone circles, long barrows and enclosures. Dropping into a string of picturesque Dorset villages, with thatched cottages and rustic churches. Finish the day strolling along Chesil beach. With fine weather today we will enjoy an alfresco English picnic.
The morning of our last day and we set off "To the Fort" An optional walk to explore the fort that once stood on the crest of the hill, looking out along the whole sweep Chesil beach. There are some amazing views. Tales of tribes, smugglers and coast guards! Our route then leads us to the sea and a stroll back to our hotel for refreshments.
