Trail overview
Where? - Nr Salisbury, Wiltshire, South West England
When? - Winter 2009 & 2010 available now
Step back in time with this chivalrous walking holiday. Climb the ancient stone staircase to the banqueting hall of a medieval 14th century castle, where grand feasts with ales and musicians took place alongside daily castle life. The countryside portrays such a rare old english feel and enhances the feeling of leaving the modern world far behind. Explore a place of contrasts. Today's tranquil landscapes hide memories of fierce battles which once took place. Handfuls of medieval villages and care free sheep grace the beautiful landscapes. Country traditions remain strong. Near the old may pole knights of the 13th century crusades built a hospital and May Day celebrations see the village children perform their dances with ribbons and bells.
On route proper country pubs serve cask ales and hearty lunches, perfect, or stock up on a picnic of goodies when the weather is fair.
